Super Science Friday - Cloud in a Bowl

We made a model of a cloud in a bowl using shaving foam.

Next we added some drop of blue food colouring to represent water molecules inside a cloud.  The water vapour cools higher up and condenses to form clouds.

As we added more drops they simulated water molecules banging together and forming water droplets.  When the droplets are big enough they fall (precipitate) from the cloud.

We had fun watching the blue rain fall from our cloud.
Try and make your own cloud at home.

Cross Country

The children were amazing on Cross Country Day.  They all tried their hardest and most improved on their placing from last year.
Congratulations to Emily and Caleb who were first for the Year 2 girls and boys respectively.

(Seniors were taking photos for me and unfortunately we only got a few of the year 2 girls.)

Our Class Garden

Maia and Fletcher weeded our class garden this week. They also added some fertiliser. It's looking great.  We need some good receipes for using our Veges!

Look what we found

Zoe and Eva were so excited to find solid water on the slide after a frosty start to the morning.  We collected it and watched it change to a liquid.

Our Assembly Movie - Celebrating our Wind Science

Re-visiting Molecules

We talked about the 3 states of water.

Water can change
It can be a liquid
A gas
A solid.
We acted out how the molecules behave in these different states.
Ask us to show you!

The Water cycle Song

We learnt the water cycle song. (click on link - the title above)

Mrs Hayman put half a glass of water in an electric fry pan and we watched the water boil and then change to vapour and then it condensed on the lid of the frying pan.
Try it at home.

Where did the water go?

Our Super Science Friday Experiment was called 'Where did the water go?'
We predicted what would happen if we poured some water onto the concrete.  We predicted that...
"It would go through the cracks."
"It would run down into a drain."
"Gravity would take it across the concrete and down a sewer."
"Up into the clouds" said Olivia.
"It would soak into the concrete."

We created our puddle of water at 10.45 am and drew around it with a piece of chalk.  We checked it at 11.15 and it had gotten smaller - about half the size.  We checked it again at 12.00 noon and it had disappeared.
It had not moved out of our chalk circle so it didn't go down a drain or into the crack.
Where did the water go???
We were puzzled, although Olivia's idea that the water had gone up to make a cloud was an
interesting idea...

Habitat Inquiry

Welcome to Term 3 everyone.
We are diving into our 'Habitat' Inquiry.
We began with discussing what is living and non-living.
We used Mrs Gren to help us.

Ask about fire, worms, clouds or mushrooms.  Use Mrs Gren to help you work out if they are living or non living?
