Massage Circle
At the end of reading we sometimes do a massage circle. We end it by leaning forward and hugging the person in front because everyone needs hugs. Then we lean back. It is fun!

Why is the sea salty?
First we watched a video clip and found that the sea is salty because minerals and salts from rocks wash into the sea. Over time due to the water cycle the concentration of salt in the sea gets stronger.
We boiled some salty water in a fry pan to see how this might work...
Super Science Friday
We are investigating why sea water is salty. We are also looking at concepts such as floating and sinking and density.
Our experiment was predicting if an egg would sink or float in fresh and then salt water. We discovered that the egg sunk in fresh water and floated in salt. We discussed why. Some ideas included
The salt pushes the egg up.
The egg is lighter in salt water.
Then we mixed salt water and carefully added freshwater over the back of a spoon. We predicted what would happen if we added an egg. The children predicted it would float sink. And it did. The egg floated in the middle. Try it at home. The water must be very salty - about 6 table spoons per cup.

Earthquake Drill
Today Glenbervie School held an earthquake drill to support the nation-wide "Shakedown" earthquake practice.
Cricket coaching
Today we had the first of three cricket coaching skills. It was heaps of fun learning to bat and how to catch the ball correctly. Look at us. Do we look like real cricket players? Can't wait for next Wednesday.
